Tennis League Rules And Considerations

* Both players are responsible for making contact to choose the time and day of the week to play. Home court pays the guest fee. Both players bring a new can of tennis balls to the match (Penn/Wilson). Home court opens the can. The match winner gets the unopened can; the loser gets the balls used in the match. Be prepared to give your opponent three dollars if you fail to bring balls and lose.

* Each player should schedule at least 5-15 matches during the season which lasts 10 weeks and may continue playing as many players as time allows. You can play the same player more than once but only receive one win credit per season per player. We encourage you to arrange matches with as many players as possible. You may select from any of the players on your list in any order. The more you play the better your chances.

* All players who have won 5 actual matches at the end of the regular season advance to the playoffs. Defaulted matches do not count as a win toward the playoffs. The match is won by the player who wins 2 out of 3 sets. Regular scoring. 12 point tie-breaker is played at 6 games all.

* Line calls. Please give the benefit of your doubts to your opponents. Only call the lines on your side of the net.

* The winner must login
and post the match scores within 24 hours after each match.

* If you win or lose by the scores of 6-1, 6-1 or worse after 4 consecutive matches we will move you into the appropriate division to complete the season. We track every game and every set you play, win or lose, your record does count. You may play matches in any order you choose.  The play list will change during the season as players are moved to adjust for any lopsided matches, injury or late entries.

*The playoff Tournament is held at the end of each season and lasts 2 to 3 weeks. The format is single elimination. Division winners advance to the next level with a free season membership, prizes, and awards. The winner from each division playoff tournament must move up one skill level. The finalist from each division playoff tournament may also move up one skill level. Established players may not randomly move to another division.

* A player has the option to take a forfeit from the opponent when that player:
1. Doesn't show up for the match.
2. Shows up more than 15 minutes late.
3. Doesn't give 4 hours notice for match cancellations.
4. Doesn't complete the match.
*** Player's will be fined $25 for violation of Rules 1, 2, or 3 as stated above.

* Coaching is allowed just as in Davis Cup and Collegiate play. The coach may be on the court, but can only offer information at the changeover and cannot interfere with the flow of the match.

*If you sign up to play and for some reason don't play please don't request a refund or to be moved to another season as the labor expense involved in the set up and removal of your registration far exceeds the league fee paid.

The league's primary purpose is to build community involvement in tennis and to help people improve their tennis game. Players must be at least 18 years old.

Thanks from all of us at Tennis League San Diego.
