Tennis League Rules And Considerations

* Both players are responsible for making contact to choose the time and day of the week to play. Home court pays the guest fee. Both players bring a new can of tennis balls to the match (Penn/Wilson). Home court opens the can. The match winner gets the unopened can; the loser gets the balls used in the match. Be prepared to give your opponent three dollars if you fail to bring balls and lose.

* Each player should schedule at least 5-15 matches during the season which lasts 10 weeks and may continue playing as many players as time allows. You can play the same player more than once but only receive one win credit per season per player. We encourage you to arrange matches with as many players as possible. You may select from any of the players on your list in any order. The more you play the better your chances.

* The match is won by the player who wins 2 out of 3 sets. Regular scoring. 12 point tie-breaker is played at 6 games all. All players who have won 5 actual matches at the end of the regular season advance to the playoffs. Defaulted matches do not count as a win toward the playoffs. Higher seeded players in the playoffs receive home court selection. If the match is ended because of a time restriction then the score at the conclusion is the score.

* 10 Game Pro set option: If the players agree before the match that due to limited court time, (1 hour or less) a 10-game pro set can be played with ad scoring. This means the first to win 10 games. But, if the match is ended because of a time restriction then the score at the conclusion is the score for the match. At 9-9, a 12-point tiebreaker will be used to determine the winner. *

* Line calls. Please give the benefit of your doubts to your opponents. Only call the lines on your side of the net.

* Only the winner can login and post the match scores, within 24 hours after each match.

* We reserve the right to remove a player if they haven't played a match within the first 2 weeks or if a player hasn't played at least 2 matches by mid season.

* A player can be moved up or down during the season based on how they have performed after three matches. If a player has averaged a score of 12-3 for their first 3 matches they will be a candidate for moving up a division. Inverse is true for a player that has lost their first 3 matches by an average score of 12-3. We track every game and every set you play, win or lose, your record does count. You may play matches in any order you choose. The play list will change during the season as players are moved to adjust for any lopsided matches, injury or late entries.

* The playoff Tournament is held at the end of each season and lasts 2 to 3 weeks. The format is single elimination. Division winners advance to the next level with a free season membership, prizes, and awards. The winner from each division playoff tournament must move up one skill level. The finalist from each division playoff tournament may also move up one skill level. Established players may not randomly move to another division.

* A player has the option to take a forfeit from the opponent when that player:
1. Doesn't show up for the match.
2. Shows up more than 15 minutes late.
3. Doesn't give 4 hours notice for match cancellations.
4. Doesn't complete the match.
*** Player's will be fined $25 for violation of Rules 1, 2, or 3 as stated above.

* The league is all about players getting out there and playing during the regular season. So if a player plays 10 matches in a season not including the playoffs, they will get $10 off their next season. If a player can play 20 matches in a season, once again not including the playoffs, their next season is free. No-shows don't count as a match played for this discount. Discount doesn't apply if its coming from participating in a free season. This discount is reimbursed after the purchase of a new season. Players need to also send us a reminder email to make sure we credit you the discount.

* Coaching is allowed just as in Davis Cup and Collegiate play. The coach may be on the court, but can only offer information at the changeover and cannot interfere with the flow of the match.

* If you sign up to play and for some reason don't play please don't request a refund or to be moved to another season as the time and expense involved in the set up and removal of your registration exceeds the league fee paid. A player who withdraws from the league due to injury or time constraints is required to make the administrator aware of the withdrawal. This player will be removed from the website as active, but all wins will remain posted.

*** The league's primary purpose is to build community involvement in tennis and to help people improve their tennis game. Players must be at least 18 years of age.
